Information
RDS aims to provide individuals with, at risk of, or supporting someone with rare dementias access to information and guided support. RDS’s vision is for everyone affected by a rare dementia to have access to the right information and support at the right time, and the opportunity to meet others in the same boat. In an environment where there is a lack of dedicated resources, making information accessible to people from all areas of society is a priority for RDS.
Our translation project aims to bridge some of these gaps. With the support of the UCL Centre for Translation Studies (CenTraS), Asian Media Group, VSI, Striker Productions and other partners, we have compiled a list of specialised resources on frontotemporal dementia (FTD) including familial FTD (fFTD), primary progressive aphasia (PPA), posterior cortical atrophy (PCA), familial Alzheimer’s disease (FAD), young onset Alzheimer’s disease (YOAD) and Lewy body dementia (LBD) in the form of information sheets and films available online in 16 different languages [please see English version of factsheet here]. These languages include Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Arabic, Bengali, Portuguese, Gujarati, Hindi, Polish, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu and Russian.
We hope these resources can be used to deepen understanding about different forms of dementia in all corners of society. This translation project is ongoing, so please do contact us at contact@raredementiasupport.org if you would like to volunteer your language skills for future translation or proofreading work, if you can help us create resources in other languages or for other communities, or if you feel there are ways to make improvements, modernise the language or make the resources more culturally appropriate.
